SPOKANE, April 25—The ninth inning was needed to bring home the winning runs in both games of a double-header Sunday as Spokane got by Vancouver in the opener, 3-2, while the Capilanos blanked the Indians in the second game, 4-0.
Bill Reese singled home the first two runs for Vancouver in the night game, and Bill Brenner doubled to right centre for two more.
Until then, the Caps had only three hits off Frank Nelson. One of the three was Buddy Hjelmaa's single. He has hit in all eight of Vancouver's games this season.
In the opener, pitcher John Cordell dumped a single off rival Hal Saltzman over Len Tran's head at third base to break a 2-2 tie in the ninth to give Spokane the win. It was the fourth hit of the inning.

The win puts the Tigers at the top of the standings.
Mitch Chetkovich hurled a four-hitter in the opener while his Tigers mates were blasting five Victoria moundsmen for 17 base knocks, including a home by Larry Lee.
Jim Gleason limited the visitors to seven hits in the nightcap. Gene Clough put the Tigers in front when he led off with a homer in the first inning, but it wasn't until the fourth, when they jumped on Dick Walkingshaw for five runs, four of them unearned, that the Tigers were able to sew up the game.
