TACOMA, Wash., April 23—Southpaw Ray Fortier, who hurled for Victoria last season, turned on his old mates tonight here as his limited the Athletics to six hits in registering a 6-3 triumph for Tacoma in the opener of a four-game series.
Victoria took the league in the first inning when Archie Wilson singled to score Jack Palmer, who got on base when Glen Stetter made a two-base muff of his fly ball.
Harry Lee, Tacoma third baseman, was the hitting star of the game for the winners. He singled home two runs in the third, then doubled to score another pair in the fifth, later scoring the fifth tally himself. The final tally for the Tigers came in the seventh when relief pitcher Jim Propst issued four walks. Al Goot, former University of Washington right-hander, took over from Propst and escaped further trouple.
The game marked the first appearance of Babe Jensen, last season's third baseman, in the Victoria line-up. Jensen opened the game at first base, but Paul Jensen took over before the game was over. He was hitless in two at-bats.
